Prof. Irene M. C . Lo - 2005 Hsai-Yang Fang Research Award Winner
(2005-10-06 15:04:00.0) The Hsai-Yang Fang Research Award is presented to an individual who submits an original paper to one of the conferences/symposia held under the auspices of the International Society of Environmental Geotechnology (ISEG). The last award was given during the International Conference on Energy, Environment and Disasters, held in Charlotte, NC, USA, on July 24-30, 2005, to Prof. Irene M. C. Lo for the paper "Bench-Scale of the Effects of Seepage Velocity on the Dechlorination of TCE and PCE by Zero-Valent Iron" (available online for ISEG Members) presented during the 6th International Symposium on Environmental Geotechnology and Global Sustainable Development, Seoul, South Korea (2002). Professor Lo is currently Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She received both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Her technical expertise in geoenvironmental technology includes clay liners for waste containment facilities (such as landfill disposal sites and underground storage tanks), remediation of contaminated soils and groundwater, and centrifuge modeling of pollutant transport in liners and saturated soils. In the past ten years, she has been devoting most of her time on the development of organically modified clays for waste containment facilities and solidification/stabilization use. |
