International Symposium on Technologies and Treatment of Solid Waste
(2006-02-20 12:36:00.0) One of the main problems faced for the modern society is the management of the domestic, industrial and commercial solid waste whose production grows every day. In Latin America and the Caribbean, 424 thousand tons of solid waste is generated daily. In Brazil the number exceeds 140 thousand tons on a daily basis.
The problem is more complex in the cities of developing countries. The lack of economic resources or bad administration inhibits the accomplishment of research needed for efficient local solutions to compensate for the lack of enabled human resources.
More than 80% of the Brazilian cities launch its residues in opened sky places, water courses or protected areas, evidencing the bad management of the solid waste.
This Symposium is supported by the International Society for Environmental Geotechnology - ISEG (South America Branch) and many other organizations and it has the following objectives:
•To provide a forum of debates, discussion and exchange of information in the context of alternative technologies in management of solid waste;
•To disseminate experiences of treatment and disposal of solid waste currently adopted in Brazil and other countries;
•To provide the knowledge of equipment and technologies associated to the waste, monitoring, closure of disposal areas, recycling/reuse of waste/rejects, etc.
The International Symposium on Technology and Treatment of Solid Waste is designed to researchers and technician of public and private University, Research Centers, Companies of Consulting, Industries, Governmental Agencies, Institutions connected to the environment and the sustainable development, student universities, etc. |
